From an internship to an engineer specialising in tenders and procurement processes.
Verena is an engineer who specialises in tenders and procurement processes at Huber Parking. She is involved in new projects from an early stage, initiates tenders for the key trades and assists with cost estimation. At the same time, she draws on her experience of site management and digitalisation on construction sites. This combination of technical knowledge, practical project experience and a structured work approach makes her role so unique.
She began her journey at Huber Parking while still studying for her bachelor’s degree. In 2021, she began an internship on a construction site in England, which was a perfect fit for her. After all, it was precisely this international dimension that had attracted her to Huber Parking in the first place.
When a study programme in the USA was cancelled, she was determined not to give up on her desire for international experience. She remembered the company presentation at her university and decided to send in an application. Despite Brexit and the pandemic, her plan became reality: “From day one, I felt like a full member of the team,” she says, looking back. Rather than being given the usual internship tasks, she was given entrusted with responsibility and provided with genuine insights into the practical side of the business. This was followed by her bachelor’s thesis, a working student role alongside her master’s degree, her master’s thesis and, finally, her start as a site manager.
A particularly formative experience for Verena was a very difficult period at the beginning of her time at Huber Parking. While on her work placement in England, she lost her entire flat in the 2021 flood disaster in Ahrweiler. As a student with no financial security, she was left with nothing. Huber Parking supported her promptly, compassionately and efficiently in this situation, helping her organise her return to Germany and providing financial support until state aid came through. This remains a key reason for Verena’s close attachment to the company to this day.
After around three years of working in construction management on projects in Germany and the Netherlands, and travelling extensively, she realised that she wanted to develop professionally while also spending more time in the office. In collaboration with Huber Parking, a new role was swiftly created that suited her perfectly: closer to home and her colleagues, yet still closely involved with the projects.
Verena has progressed through several stages of development at Huber Parking within just a few years. This is a testament not only to her own dedication, but also to a workplace culture that recognises and nurtures potential:
“I was able to openly discuss my aspirations, and we found a solution quickly, something I certainly did not take for granted.”
Verena particularly values the combination of professionalism and a friendly, family-like working atmosphere at Huber Parking. For her, it is precisely this balance that sets the company apart – it is a large, modern organisation with clear structures and opportunities for development, while also offering a working environment where people know each other, communicate openly and work together as equals. This is also why her view of car park construction has changed significantly over the years. Her initial image of a grey concrete block has given way to genuine enthusiasm for a product that can be open, welcoming and architecturally versatile. For Verena, every project is different today, and that is exactly what makes working at Huber Parking so exciting.
