Since September 2024, some of us at Huber Parking have been actively supporting bees, biodiversity and sustainability causes through our bee project, HUBEE. This project is particularly special to us as it was inspired by a bee colony from the estate of our late managing director, Arno Geis, who sadly passed away prematurely. We are continuing this project in his name, and we are very grateful to have been given the opportunity to do so.
In the first year, our HUBEE team was supported by an experienced beekeeper mentor. This enabled us to gradually gain hands-on experience in caring for bee colonies, understand the cycles of the bee year and recognise the crucial role of bees in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Thanks to two loaned colonies, we were able to split off a further four colonies from the existing ones in early May 2025, thus expanding our numbers. Our first two honey harvests took place on 17 May 2025 and 19 July 2025. We use the honey we produce at our office.
Of course, a project like this brings with it both pleasant and challenging moments. For example, the area where the beehives are located was damaged by wild boars. To permanently protect the bee colonies, an electric fence has now been installed around the site.
As the 2026 honey season begins, HUBEE is now entering the next phase. We are looking forward to seeing how our bee colonies develop and what the new year has in store for the project.
