How a commercial apprenticeship led to a career path in controlling with plenty of opportunities for development.

Simon is a controller at Huber Parking. However, his journey didn’t begin directly in controlling, but in accounting. In 2015, he started a commercial apprenticeship, thereby deliberately laying a practical foundation for everything that followed. He quickly realised that, alongside accounting, he was particularly interested in the internal workings of a company: cost accounting, operational control, efficiency and the question of how decisions can be prepared in a way that makes economic sense.
That is why, after completing his apprenticeship, he decided to study Business Administration, consistently deepening his specialisation until he eventually completed his Master’s degree in Controlling and Management in March 2026.
Although he spent a short period away from the company during this time, he quickly realised where he wanted to be in the long-term. During his six-month work placement, he gained valuable insight into the world of work at a large company. This experience was particularly important, because it made him realise even more clearly what he values in a medium-sized company like Huber Parking: a close-knit atmosphere, opportunities to influence and shape things, and the feeling of being recognised as an individual, rather than as just another cog in a large organisation.
“At Huber Parking, you realise that even at a young age you can make a difference, contribute to decision-making and propose ideas,” says Simon. It is precisely this opportunity to develop professionally while having a real impact that makes his career path at Huber Parking so special to him.
Like many others, Simon initially had a rather functional view of the product. To him, a car park was primarily a functional structure. However, this perspective has changed over time. Anyone who works at Huber Parking soon realises that there is much more to it than meets the eye: technical depth, economic complexity, bespoke project solutions, and the ambition to transform an apparently ordinary construction task into something extraordinary.

This continues to impress Simon to this day. He also particularly values the sense of camaraderie within the company.
